Purpose of study: A high-quality history education will help pupils gain coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain's past and that of the wider world. It should inspire pupils' curiosity to know more about the past. Teaching should equip pupils to perceive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people's lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time. 

KS2 pupils were fortunate to welcome Ian Gilbert, an aeronautical engineer, to lead an assembly on how the evolution of technology has meant that mobile phones can now do all the jobs we used to need all of these much larger, slower, mechanical devices to do. 

He encouraged and inspired APPS pupils to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as he said that the world needs more creative, critical thinkers to solve problems of the future!
